Cory Energy from Waste
London
About this project
Semperian is a minority shareholder in Cory, the largest single asset by valuation in the Semperian portfolio. Cory is a major UK infrastructure business with over 350 employees, which plays a critical role in diverting non-recyclable waste from landfill and converting it into renewable energy. Strategically located along the River Thames in the London borough of Bexley, the business is unique in using river transport to send waste to its facilities to reduce road congestion and carbon emissions. Waste contracts are predominantly with Local Authorities in London and the South East of England, plus commercial and industrial contracts. Cory is a business operating in perpetuity with a long history, it is not a fixed term concession.
The river transport business makes Cory the largest commercial operator on the river Thames. The first Cory EfW (‘Energy from Waste’) facility, Riverside 1, processes over 800,000 tonnes of waste per annum and generating electricity to power 213,000 homes and a second plant Riverside 2 is currently under construction due to open in 2026 to process a further 650,000 tonnes per annum and which will generate electricity to power a further 170,000 homes. Combined, Cory facilities will be treating over 1.4 million tonnes of household and commercial waste that would otherwise end up in landfill or being sent for treatment overseas.
