M50 Road
Dublin

About this project

The M50 Motorway forms a strategic orbital route around Dublin, serving as Ireland’s busiest road and a critical link between all major national primary routes. The project was procured by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) in 2007.

Semperian owns a 50% equity stake in the M50 PPP Project. The scope of the concession includes the design, build, finance, operation, and maintenance of the motorway infrastructure. The project operates under a long-term availability-based contract with TII, running until 2042, with revenues generated through availability payments rather than tolling.

Construction commenced in 2007 and was completed in April 2011. The works were delivered by a consortium comprising FCC Construcción, Sacyr, and PJ Hegarty & Sons, acting as the EPC contractor. The project involved significant upgrades to the existing motorway, including widening, junction improvements, and the installation of advanced traffic management systems.

Operation and maintenance services are self-delivered by the project company, ensuring direct control over service quality and asset performance. The motorway supports high traffic volumes, with an Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) of more than 150,000, equating to approximately 55 million vehicle trips annually.
